Opinion | The Translation and Preservation of National Identity and Cultural Heritage in the Age of Globalization: A Perspective from Egyptian Cultural Institutions
Source: https://dailynewsegypt.com/feed/

In today’s world, where globalization is often applied in a uniform and single-minded way, a phenomenon understood largely in terms of erasing cultural boundaries, the role of translation emerges as the last vestige of soft power, perhaps even the only remaining means of protecting and re-presenting identity in a way that preserves its value within […]

Dream Pop Finds Its Soul in Classical Arabic Poetry
Source: https://egyptianstreets.com/feed/

“All the beauty in you holds me, my love,” Egyptian artist BOSA, formerly known as Bosaina, sings softly and ethereally in Arabic in her latest dream-pop single, Shat Geded (A New Shore, 2025). The crashing waves, the vivid bursts of the pink flamingo ride, and the sea-lit glow of the music video are not the only images that conjure the feeling of the seashore. There is another shoreline unfolding beneath it all; one that lives within her mind, visible only through the song’s dreamlike haze and drifting beauty. Using vintage-style film grain and warm, sun-drenched shots of a coastline, the song gently takes the hand of its listeners and leads them into the dreamy interior of BOSA’s mind, a place where all the beauty in the world can reveal itself through a single moment, or even through the gaze of one lover. It is the kind of music one can completely sink into, or that can accompany a long, warm bath. While dream-pop is often linked to Western influences from the 1980s or the psychedelic rock scene of the late 1960s, BOSA takes the genre in a different direction,Continue reading "Dream Pop Finds Its Soul in Classical Arabic Poetry"

Egypt Sends Fighter Jets to the UAE to Defend Against Iranian Attacks
Source: https://egyptianstreets.com/feed/

The United Arab Emirates announced on Thursday, 8 May, that Egyptian combat aircraft had been deployed on its soil for the first time, with the Emirati Ministry of Defence revealing a contingent of Rafale F3R fighters from the Egyptian Air Force to assist the UAE in defensive operations against Iranian drones and missiles. The disclosure, a significant military signal, came during an unannounced visit to Abu Dhabi by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and was notable given that Cairo and Abu Dhabi have often found themselves on opposite sides of regional disputes, even as the UAE remains Egypt’s largest foreign investor. Al-Sisi and President Mohamed bin Zayed jointly inspected the Egyptian fighter detachment, reviewing its operational readiness and meeting personally with some of the pilots credited with helping to keep the Emirates safe during the regional conflict. Neither government disclosed the aircraft’s type or location, though Egypt’s air force draws on a mixed fleet of American, French, and Russian-built fighters, among them the F-16, the Rafale, and the MiG-29. The Egyptian president declared that Cairo stood in “complete solidarity” with the Emirates, rejected what he called Iranian aggressions against Emirati sovereignty,Continue reading "Egypt Sends Fighter Jets to the UAE to Defend Against Iranian Attacks"
